Meet "Mother's" main Character Jade
If you have read the welcome page you know I am in a writing frenzy of multiple books at once. This week you get to meet the Main character of the first in a series. An introduction of sorts that sets up the main series to explain why, mother is why she is. You will also get to meet future characters in this novel that the future of the series is based around.
You may find the format here a bit odd, being in interview format, but this is how I get to know each of my characters, remembering their details and things whether I use them in the story or not. What methods do you use to remember each character? DO you have a spreadsheet or character sheet? Let me know in the comments!
Jade
Age (to start) verge of 16
(to end) around 120
Brief Description: Medium Brown hair and green eyes. Unknown powers followed by unknown powers. Father a warlock, Mother a Seer with traces of healer powers though much isn't to be discovered of either parent.
Jade, at 16 you find yourself in a predicament that you could have walked away from, why did you choose the first path offered instead of running?
"I chose what I feared less at the time. When you have no one left to protect you, and you don't know much about the world nor the world that you were kept from, curiosity wins out. I went in search of knowledge."
Speaking of having no one left, what happened that you find yourself alone?
"My father was murdered in front of me when I was a little girl, the images still haunt me to this day. My Mother...well she isn't around either and no I will not elaborate, the memory of that is far worse than that of my father."
On your way to follow the curiosity you spoke of earlier, did you find love and friends or was it only about learning?
"These questions really are quite prying, but I'll play along for a while. It was learning at first, my mother's last words were something of keeping my heart to myself for it was better being frozen than stolen. It proved useful during my 100 years at the academy, and more useful once I integrated back into the destroyed world of humans. Love didn't happen, but life did. With every birth I had, Part of my heart would melt....and then...well, don't worry about that now."
So you came back from...where were you?
"Since the worlds merged, more or less I suppose I can tell you a little. I was in the fae realm known as Ithara in the proud city of Aecium. I never really left the school, as everything I needed was there so I can't speak of much around, it was quite expansive from the maps I studied. It was magic and beautiful, and I do miss it on occasion. You asked if I found love, I suppose in a way I did. Mostly with the realm though. Not with a person. "
So your curiosity lead to child birth! Oh how wonderful, Where are they now?
"Yes, of course wonderful. Soul sucking little beasts that almost destroyed all I worked towards. Yes clearly wonderful beings." She smiled a cold smile at this point and added that she was kidding of course, she loved her children followed by "I don't know where they are, and if I did know I certainly wouldn't tell you! They are none of your business. Either ask mundane and normal questions or get the hell out before I have your heart for dinner and sell your soul to my demon for a gift."
I have to pause here and let you, the reader know, this woman was quite different from how I remember her. She must not realize I knew her when she was at the academy. For I sat in the same mahogany and gold lined bookshelves that she did. I could see a determination like none other and it made me curious. I know of her search for knowledge and her thirst for answers to whom controls the darkness led her from the white witches to a path perpendicular to our trainings. She disappeared off of what humans refer to as "radar", the day after the birth of her first daughter. Many thought her dead, I knew her power was beyond the scope of most, I didn't realize how far she had taken her search for satisfaction until much later. Details in time my friends. Now, lets hope I don't offend her much more today and continue this interview.
Let's back track a bit then shall we? What was the world like when you came back after such a long time? Were you nervous?
"The world, it was quite sad, but quite interesting at the same time when I came back. The world as I knew it in 2017 had been blown to pieces a year later. Really it was quite predictable the way the countries were fighting and accusing each other of horrid things that I knew very little of then as I was so young. Even then the tensions were high enough to take notice. While I was gone... Mountains I had known had been crumbled, countries wiped off the face of the earth and new land masses created. The fae, the witches and willing humans had to come together to put a stop to the wars and fighting before the entire world collapsed within itself. I came back to a world most un-cleverly renamed to Thera, in the small town of Quincy, named after the founder of course. It was an anti-magic town with witchery tests and weekly hangings. It was as if I had stepped into the 1600's. Clearly, this town was not optimal for a witch of my caliber but I made it work for a short time. I also discovered other towns and cities actually had electricity and some were far more technologically advanced than I had ever thought possible. So strange it was to have such huge gap of tech and acceptance between spaces when the world was significantly smaller now than ever. Literally. They changed everything when earth and Ithara combined. No, I wasn't nervous. I was...curious, of course."
Jade's smile may have seemed friendly, but her eyes were fierce and dark. This woman was one to be feared. THere was no warmth that radiated from her, not in her slight calculated movements, of her smile and most certainly not her eyes. Cold swept through the room adn I looked for an open window but realized, we were in a room without. A pit formed in my stomach and decided to leave the interview as fast as possible. A shadow attached to nothing sat in the corner and somehow I recognized the demon for what it was.
So Jade, some quick last questions before we wrap it up. What is your favorite color and ice cream, and what plans do you have for the future?
"Quick you say? okay. I suppose my long responses can be taxing on ones...soul." She paused for a moment and I stared blankly not knowing what she was implying, " My favorite color is red," a genuine smile makes its way across her lips, "Red velvet ice cream, if you can find it. it is quite uncommon anymore though. Oh and for future plans....I'll let the fates guide me with a little help of course." She looks to the shadow and smiles. "Now if we are finished, I have my own sort of interview to do elsewhere. Information is so hard to obtain these days, you know." She winked and picked up a dagger from her desk as she walked to the door to let me out.
That interview went...well do you think? I left with my life, and for that I am grateful. Either the protection charms worked, or she was feeling generous. I won't let myself think of other possibilites!
